Renaissance (Village People album). Renaissance is the seventh studio album by American disco group The Village People, released in 1981. The album marked a departure for the group, with a more New Wave-influenced sound and less of an emphasis on disco. In 1980, the Village People had starred in the motion picture Can't Stop the Music alongside Caitlyn Jenner (then known as Bruce); however, the film was released after disco's peak, and the album was a box office flop

Renaissance ‎(LP, Album, Promo). This album is so awful, but VERY catchy! I was walking around humming Action Man for two weeks after listening to it. The Village People tried their best to become a new wave band, but the disco keeps creeping into every song. This album is worth owning for the hilarious cover. What were they thinking? Village People is the self-titled debut album by Village People, released on July 11, 1977. Its hit song "San Francisco (You've Got Me)" reached the top 50 in the UK, peaking at Village People was the creation of Jacques Morali, a French composer. He had written a few dance tunes when he was given a demo tape recorded by singer/actor Victor Willis. Morali approached Willis and told him, "I had a dream that you sang lead on my album and it went very, very big".

The title reflects the band's departure from the disco genre with which they had long been associated to a New Wave style following the downfall of Disco from the mainstream as well as the discontinuation of their signature costumes.
