Guitarist John Platania was cajoled into making this disc by Chip Taylor, himself a guitarist and also a producer and owner of the Train Wreck label. But instead of making a straight-ahead album of fancy guitar tunes, Platania decided to make something a little stranger: a collection of guitar tunes with a weird assortment of spoken and sung vocals woven through them.

John Platania is a well-known session musician, guitar player, and record producer. Platania was born in 1948 in New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley, in Ulster County, near Woodstock. Platania also co-wrote two songs with Morrison, on his compilation album of out-takes The Philosopher's Stone, as well as playing guitar on several of the tracks on disc one. In 2006, Platania again reunited with Van Morrison, touring on Morrison's "Pay The Devil" tour and continued playing with the Van Morrison band in 2008.

In 1976 in Los Angeles, Platania formed a band, the short-lived Giants, with Ron Elliott, Bruce Gary and Karl Rucker, but the unit only released one album. In 1983 Platania worked on the Emmy Award-winning revue, None For The Road. Other music for the theatre included The Life And Times Of Harriet Taubman, which was staged by Sail Productions. In 2006 Platania was again working with Morrison on hisPay The Devil world tour.

John Platania’s acoustic and electric guitar work is prominently featured on Moondance, as well as many other Morrison masterpieces, such as His Band and the Street Choir, and the live It’s Too Late To Stop Now. In the more recent decade, the guitarist who helped invent roots-rock has been plying his trade accompanying Chip Taylor, another songwriting legend ( Wild Thing, Angel Of The Morning ) who acts as producer on this release. On his first instrumental solo record, Platania continues his role as exemplary accompanist-this time backing his own expressively played guitar melodies
