Big Fun is the third album by American R&B group Shalamar, released in 1979 on the SOLAR label. Big Fun was produced by Leon Sylvers III and is the first album to feature what is considered the 'classic' Shalamar line-up (Jeffrey Daniel, Howard Hewett and Jody Watley), with Hewett having replaced Gerald Brown. The album features the group's biggest hit single, "The Second Time Around".
With its third album, Big Fun, Shalamar unveiled its best-known and most successful lineup. Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniels were still on board, but Gerald Brown had been replaced by the charismatic Howard Hewett. Both creatively and commercially, this album would take Shalamar to new heights and establish the trio as one of the best soul-pop units of 1979-1983

After Gardens, Gerald Brown’s tenure as Shalamar’s male lead lasted only one album, as disputes about appropriate payment (an all-too-familiar refrain for those studying the history of black music in America) led to his departure from the group. Griffey’s replacement was Howard Hewett, an immensely talented singer from Akron, Ohio who also spent time dancing on Soul Train before being added to the group for the next Shalamar album, 1979’s Big Fun. Big Fun is the textbook for what made disco, well, fun (please just look at its cover).
Not sure what Mr. Mcgonigle was complaining about back in 2010, but this CD - Big Fun, does NOT contain any of the songs for Shalamar's second album - Disco Garden. Perhaps he got a wrongly titled disk or something. Additionally, I still have my have vinyl version of this CD (Big Fun) I bought back in 79, and it's the same CD. Again, perhaps Mr. Mcgonigle got the wrong CD. Anyway I'm not really good at describing music so I'll just go into what I know.
