Disc 1 is the Original 1965 movie soundtrack album, with 16 tracks sequenced as the songs appear in the movie. Disc 2 features extended versions of selected songs as heard in the film, numbers not included on the Original Soundtrack Album, and an interview with composer Richard Rodgers. Although future Soundtrack re-issues (one about every five years) would combine everything to one disc for a total of around 27 tracks, this 2 disc presentation provides a unique listening experience.

A Chorus Line, which premiered in 1975, had the distinction of being the longest-running Broadway show until a 1983 show called Cats swiped the record away. A Chorus Line is still one of the most beloved musicals of all time, however, even resulting in a relatively well-done movie version in 1985. The original German cast recording is a fine showing, but the original Broadway cast and the film soundtrack are both stronger, with more familiar renditions of the songs for those who are fans of the show.
