Raw Power is the third and final studio album by The Stooges.

It was released on February 7, 1973, by Columbia Records. The album departed musically from the "groove-ridden, feel-based songs" of the band's first two records in favor of more anthemic hard rock while featuring guitar and songwriting contributions by James Williamson.

The Stooges, also known as Iggy and the Stooges, were an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander. Playing a raw, primitive style of rock and roll, the band sold few records in their original incarnation and gained a reputation for their confrontational performances, which often involved acts of self-mutilation by Iggy Pop.

Although now considered hugely influential, when Raw Power, The Stooges’ third album, was originally released in 1973 it was largely looked down upon by mainstream rock. With its barely containable youthful energy and a Tasmanian devil on vocals, the album would serve as a blueprint for the punk revolution that was only a few years away. Singer Iggy Pop had retained latter-day Stooges guitarist James Williamson, and the duo sought to form a new band far away from the group’s home base of Ann Arbor, Michigan. We got a record deal with Columbia, and Jim had signed with MainMan Management – which was David Bowie’s management, Williamson recalls. We came over to London with the idea of forming a new band, to make the record.
