Recorded and released in 1994, the fourth album by Norwegian black metal pioneers Darkthrone is one that is also a landmark album for it’s genre similar to what Morbid Angel did for death metal or Napalm Death did for grindcore. The raw production and evil-as-fuck vocals from Fenriz has seldom been matched by their peers. The riffs are old school but catchy and the drumming is all over the place. The lyrics are full of violent themes ranging from decomposing zombies to nuclear apocalypse to taking a bath in fucking acid. The drum patterns by Flo Mounier are fucking ridiculous.
