The refinement of the orchestration is close to perfection, and all the score's details are brought out. Even so, there is a lack of excitement in the playing in the first part, as if that day's recording session was uninspired. The recorded sound is a little muted in the Saint-Saëns and the Poulenc, but is open and vivid in the Franck.

Saint-Saëns: Symphony No. 3- Organ Symphony, Poulenc: Organ Concerto. The intensity of Dutoit's interpretations of the Poulenc and Saint-Saens make the album recommended, but certainly second to Ormandy. It is extraordinary in its depth and richness.

The Symphony No. 78, was completed by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1886 at what was probably the artistic peak of his career. It is also popularly known as the Organ Symphony, even though it is not a true symphony for organ, but simply an orchestral symphony where two sections out of four use the pipe organ. The composer inscribed it as: Symphonie No. 3 "avec orgue" (with organ).
