Dream a Garden represents a dramatic break for Jam City's Jack Latham, whose 2012 album Classical Curves helped define the concussive Night Slugs sound. When Jam City's Jack Latham debuted his Dream a Garden material at Krakow's Unsound festival last fall, he scattered an armload of roses across the stage before strapping on a guitar and stepping behind a laptop and microphone. It was a dramatic way of wiping the slate clean, of marking a line between "then" and "now. Previously, he had been known as one of the standard-bearers for the Night Slugs label and its concussive club sound, and his 2012 album Classical Curves is widely regarded as one of the label's high points.
It’s easy to see why what you might call 'alternative' press have been losing their shit over Jam City's new album 'Dream A Garden'. Times are tough, and at least there’s one person out there willing to say it straight in music. Soundtracking a world in crisis over nine gauzy songs of corporate detritus pulled apart and built back up again, producer Jack Latham finds hope in these sheaths and reverberations of rare beauty, synthesised. It’s a good thing, too, that Latham made the switch from the aggressive chop, smash, and screw of his 2012 debut album 'Classical Curves'.
Jack Latham is a UK electronic music producer and DJ who performs under the alias Jam City. He has been active since 2010 and records on Night Slugs. He has released two full-length albums on the label, 2012's Classical Curves and 2015's Dream a Garden, both to critical praise. He has also produced for artists such as Kelela. Jam City's debut album, Classical Curves, was released in 2012 to positive reception
FACT recently caught up with Latham to discuss his highly anticipated second LP, described as a record of painterly fragments and peeling edges, wheezing synths and–the real surprise–Latham’s own voice half-buried in the mi. ne of the most dramatic and fully-realized metamorphoses you could imagine from a musician only on his second album. You can stream Dream A Garden in full via Hype Machine.
His 2012 debut album Classical Curves has had a seismic influence on the structure of much UK club music since then, but instead of further developing and finessing those sonic ideas Jack Latham has gone a whole other route into fully fledged song writing. There can be few curves in artistic development between albums as the one Jam City has undertaken here with Dream A Garden.

That shit isn’t funny, no sir. Not when you’re talking about record albums, not when you’re trying to have a relaxing afternoon shopping at Ikea, and not during Thanksgiving dinner with your in-laws. Anyhow, based on the track we’ve already heard from the album - Unhappy - Dream a Garden was probably going to be something of a departure from 2012’s Classical Curves. Instead of a total break, though, Dream a Garden is described as more of an inversion of Classical Curves, something that will take many of the same aesthetic and thematic concerns and pushing them off into different directions. Sort of like how sometimes your grandma makes pineapple cake, but then other times she makes pineapple upside-down cake.
