Oates's second solo album, 1000 Miles of Life, was released on August 23, 2008. In March 2010, Oates played with the indie rock band the Bird and the Bee as a surprise guest. The show was a medley of the Bird and the Bee songs, as well as classic Hall & Oates. The performance was dedicated to H&O bassist T-Bone Wolk who died on February 27, 2010. John Oates has used many instruments and effects throughout his musical career and endorses several manufactures and brands Personal life. Oates has been married twice.
John Oates is one half of the best-selling duo of all time, Daryl Hall & John Oates, as well as an accomplished solo artist. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Oates embarked on a long-awaited solo career in 1999. He has recorded six solo albums and the 2015 DVD docu-concert Another Good Road. In 2016, Daryl Hall & John Oates received a star on the Hollywood of Fame. In addition to his solo shows, Oates continues to tour with Daryl Hall, playing sold-out concerts around the world. St. Martin's Press released the hardcover of Oates' memoir, Change of Seasons, in March 2017; the paperback will be released in 2018. Oates resides in Nashville.
You don’t usually associate Hall & Oates’ John Oates with the state of Arkansas. But the New York City-born, Philadelphia-raised singer has quite a real connection to the Natural State. My uncle Tony, after World War II, moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas and lived there for the rest of his life. As stated earlier, the album began as a tribute to Mississippi John Hurt, and there are several tracks from his catalog represented on Arkansas, such as Spike Driver Blues and My Creole Belle. If you bring up Hurt’s name, Oates immediately smiles at the mention. I loved his guitar playing style because I think a lot of people mistakenly lump him into the Delta blues category, only because he's from Mississippi. But he's not actually a Delta blues player.
Daryl Hall and John Oates, often referred to as Hall & Oates, are an American pop rock duo. Daryl Hall is generally the lead vocalist; John Oates primarily plays electric guitar and provides backing vocals. The two write most of the songs they perform, separately or in collaboration. They achieved their greatest fame from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues.
The duo essentially defined pop/rock for the era, and it's fun to watch those songs come alive on 2003's Live in Concert. This DVD resulted from a concert staged at John Jay College in New York City on March 24, 2003, for A&E's Live By Request television show. The immaculate yet organic production of Hall and Oates' recorded work translates extremely well live, thanks in part to the tight five-piece band led by their longtime bass guitarist Tom "T-Bone" Wolk.
John Oates is best known as half of the multi-platinum duo Hall and Oates. But even though the twosome became a huge success with their monster pop and dance hits of the 1980s, their first two albums were nothing like that, with guitars and keys joined by mandolin, steel and fiddle.
