The duo are considered to be one of the progenitors of the psybient genre - a genre combining world music with psychedelic trance and ambient.

This album, while enjoyable, just can't quite capture that "inexpressible" element that makes Shpongle Shpongle. The remixers do a very good job of interpreting the music, sometime changing it almost beyond recognition, but I found myself enjoying the most the tracks that stayed closest to the orginal versions. Given repeat listens on a quality sound system in a dark room, Remixes does reward however. Bottom line: This is a good trance remix album, but it is not a true Shpongle album
