Overview (current section). UnicaZürn was, apparently, a surrealist artist known for automatic drawing. The opening, and title, and pretty much centrepiece track, The Temporal Bends, comes in four movements, though it flows seamlessly as one piece. When I was a kid I used to have a recurring dream about being trapped inside an enormous machine, all pistons and pumping brass thingumajigs. When my father was sick with cancer he recounted a dream of his that he was trapped inside a human body, all pulses and throbbing tumorous thingumajigs. If I were to imagine a cross between those two dreams, it would probably sound a bit like the opening of this album. That’s all well and good, but what really makes this album for me is the second track, Nautilus. For me personally, it’s very evocative in a very specific way.

Unica Zürn (6 July 1916 – 19 October 1970) was a German author and artist. Zürn is remembered for her works of anagram poetry and automatic drawing and for her photographic collaborations with Hans Bellmer. An exhibition of Bellmer and Zürn's work took place at the Ubu Gallery in New York City in the spring of 2012. Born Nora Berta Unica Ruth Zürn, Unica was raised in a well-to-do family in Berlin-Grunewald.

UnicaZürn - temporal bends. UnicaZürn are: Stephen Thrower (Cyclobe; Coil) David Knight (Arkkon; Shock Headed Peters; Lydia Lunch) Both are also members of the improvisation group The Amal Gamal Ensemble. With guest vocals by Danielle Dax. Composed from recordings and improvisations made between 2004-2009, by the banks of the Thames and the East Sussex coast, Temporal Bends is a journey through time, and a dive into the depths. Recording sessions throughout have been accompanied by the spectre of water; slow currents or lapping waves, windows of streaming rain, seashore horizons.
