Everything Starts with an 'E'" is a song by E-Zee Possee featuring vocals from MC Kinky. It is considered by many to be the anthem of the acid house movement of the late 1980s, with the "E" in the title widely understood to refer to the drug Ecstasy (MDMA). The song began life as an instrumental interpretation of Jeremy Healy and Simon Rogers' idea of house music after a trip to Ibiza which upon being presented to Boy George had vocals added to it by MC Kinky, Boy George and Eve Gallagher.

Anyone have the date of the first release in '89? As with many old house tracks, I think I'm sure (!) the track in some form was played in clubs earlier, this one during '88. So maybe there are some earlier white label discs still around? In any case, white label or not numerous DJs often had pre-release vinyl even months before commercial sale release. Sometimes even before that there were earlier versions played in underground clubs, often on tape in-between vinyl. Some dance artists would test early versions of their music in clubs to see how it worked and at times DJs who were close with producers would be given or just grab some an early version on some medium and get it out on club nights. Another old phenomenon is that sometimes some dance artists would use that kind of exposure to get their tracks released in vinyl. Men from the labels would be there to hear the early versions, sometimes quite a few artists' tracks going on the same night.Anyway I'm fairly sure I heard some early version of this even back at the end of summer '88, which I think was before More Protein was founded and before George's own big "After the Love" track really hit the underground dance clubs. I had a white label of that track in the final version ’10 Glorious Years’ mix, bought in early '89 but again it probably came from mid to late '88 (no way to tell).

I definitely heard 'Everything Begins With An E' in 1988 albeit relatively late. Early versions could've been circulating even earlier. Everything Starts With An E was being played later. Can't provide exact dates unfortunately.

All i can say is, if you were there at the time of release you would know what a massive track this was & how important it is to the UK Acid House scene of early 89'. Simple!

why not: everything begins with an e ??? this version mentions "begins" everywhere.the other release catno 113208 has the word "starts" on the label.

As far as I'm aware. I haven't heard any version mention 'Begins' in the lyrics. However, they all say 'Starts'.The versions which state 'Begins' sound different to the ones which state 'Starts'. They are definitely different mixes. The first is more vocal than the latter and less hard but a little more acid. Both were big in 1989. The versions named 'Everything Begins With An E' came out before 'Everything Starts With An E'. I'm pretty certain early versions were out in 1988 around late summer or early Autumn. Could've been even earlier but I can't confirm that. Everything Begins With An E was played quite extensively both on pirate radio and at all the raves. Everything Starts With An E was more a warehouse classic and can hardly remember it being played on the radio.Apologies for the long winded unintelligible waffle.

The info above now includes reference to the versions, as printing differences alone, not differences in the lyrics on the track. But I might be having my own little Mandela Effect. When I go to sing the title line, it comes out as ”Everything Starts” for me, and I think that was also heard at some point, maybe in some unsurviving version.

Banned by Radio 1 from airplay on it's channels. Oddly enough, in an interview MC Kinky proclaimed that she had never even tried Ecstasy 'When it was written' Wether that suggests subsequent abstinence, I do not know...
