Pipa is a Chinese traditional music instrument with over 2000 years of history. The "Ambush from ten side" is one of the most famous classical instrumental music of China. With its highly virtuoso programmatic effects and tremendous power, this piece is regarded as the most representative of the "martial repertoire" of classical pipa solo.

Lui Pui-Yuen produces sounds ranging from police sirens to drum rolls - and that's just the first track! Really, this fellow is the Jimi Hendrix of the pipa (an instrument that sounds more like a quiet banjo than a guitar, and which in the wrong hands can come across as overly mild). The first track is the best, however, as it depicts a famous Chinese battle. The other tracks are more pastoral, depicting things like geese landing on the sand. The late Lui Tsun-Yuen was born of a musical family in Soochow, China. At the age of ten, he took up the study of the Pipa and the Chin with the foremost masters in China and was coached by such musical scholars as Wang Yu-Ting and Hsia Pao-Shen. Equipped with a prodigious technique, Lui was a sensitive musicain who is completely dedicated to his instruments. The only accomplished player in the Western countries, Lui is regarded at home, as one of the few great exponents of these classical instruments. Lui was also a composer and wrote original compositions for the Pipa.
