It Ain't Me Babe is the first studio album by the American rock band the Turtles. It was released in October 1965 on White Whale Records. Prior to recording, the band members required written permission from their parents due to being underage. Included on the album is original work from the band's high school performing days and their own interpretations of popular songs from other musicians. The most successful track "It Ain't Me Babe" reached on the national charts.

The Turtles' first album was recorded in a frantic hurry, in response to the hit status achieved by their debut single, "It Ain't Me Babe. At the time, the members were barely out of high school, a situation that might have caused a lot of other young musicians to fold up under the strain of the moment - there was no time to write (and barely time to find) the songs the members might have seemed worthy of so momentous an event (which it would have been). as a debut long-player.

The Turtles' first album "It Ain't Me" has been re-re-released by Flo & Eddie. This bare bones set has the original mono album and then copies the set in stereo which for the most part splits the vocals into one speaker and much of the backing instrumentation in the other. Sloan song "Eve of Destruction" which was a protest hit for Barry McGuire is here. Sloan, sometimes compared to songwriter Jimmy Webb, also penned the Turtles hit "Let Me Be" that shines here. Howard Kaylan's "A Walk in the Sun" shines well on the disc.

I found Dylan's 'It Ain't Me Babe' on an album and, being blissfully unaware that anyone else had ever recorded it, thought that it would make a great rock song. So I literally 'lifted' the Zombies' approach to pop - a soft Colin Blunstone-like minor verse bursting into a four-four major chorus a-la 'She's Not There Between 1965 and 1970 the group had seventeen Top 100 records; five made the Top 10. with one reaching "Happy Together" for 3 weeks on March 19th, 1967.
