EP or Mini Album (Extended Play) – originally a record, on each side of which only 2-4 musical compositions with a total duration of sound of 15-20 minutes were placed. Initially, EP was called the 7-inch diameter vinyl record, recorded at 33⅓ RPM. This difference of speed with respect to the simple engraving at 45 RPM allowed it to have a longer duration (a maximum of 25 minutes, 12’30 per side) compared to the length of the single, whose maximum duration could not exceed 15 minutes

An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a collection on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78-rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats.

But choosing whether to release an EP or album isn’t always a simple decision. Lots of artists set out to release music without ever asking themselves what their goals are, and this makes making big decisions difficult. Having a good idea about what you hope to get out of releasing music can help you decide whether to put out an album or EP. For example, if you’re a completely new band interested in finding a label, devoting your efforts to putting out an EP of your best songs is probably a good idea.

Once you’ve finished your EP and released your first single, it’s usually best to release another single. After a few singles are released and you have a few songs under your belt, you’ll want to go on to release bigger works. This can be either a mixtape, another EP, or possibly a CD if you’ve built up enough buzz. The good thing is there should be some songs which your fans like that are more popular than the rest, so you can include these on your next release.

Bat for Lashes’ Natasha Khan returns in very different garb for her fourth album, swapping black ceremonial robes for white. Last heard ululating on 2015’s highly entertaining psych-rock side project, Sexwitch, this latest album opens with Disney arpeggios and girly conventions on romantic love, with a bride-to-be imagining her happily-ever-after as a kind of rebirth.
