The Questions is a studio album by American jazz singer Kurt Elling, released via Okeh Records label on March 23, 2018.

As the title implies, the album finds Elling in deeply contemplative mood, delving into songs rife with existential themes of human suffering, and the hope for a better world. While that may sound like a serious-minded slog, it never gets bogged down. Rather, this is a well-curated set of songs, done in Elling's usual sophisticated, literate, and uplifting style. Instead of playing standards here (though the album ends on an inspired reading of Hoagy Carmichael and Johnny Mercer's "Skylark"), Elling and Marsalis (who also produced) move toward songs that are further afield.

With the release of his critically acclaimed album The Questions earlier this year, Kurt Elling responded to our tumultuous times with a wide-ranging set of music that explored some of humanity's most timely and timeless struggles.

The Questions, co-produced by Kurt Elling & Branford Marsalis, presents Elling's interpretations of songs written by some of music's most influential composers, including Bob Dylan ("A Hard Rain s A-Gonna Fall"), Leonard Bernstein ("Lonely Town"), Rodgers & Hammerstein ("I Have Dreamed" from The King and I), plus a powerful revisit of Paul Simon's "American Tune. This album is one of his. best. The songs draw you in and transport. you to a magical place. Like Ry Cooder, I believe Kurt Elling is a national treasure.
