This budget Sounds of Yesteryear package collects 12 sides by Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra. Unlike most compilations, however, which focus on the studio singles, this set features extremely rare live broadcast recordings made in 1949 and 1950. The recordings capture the spontaneity of the live setting, and feature many dazzling solos from members of Dorsey's orchestra. The program, which includes inventive arrangements of traditional tunes like "Swanee River" alongside swing classics like "Sweet Georgia Brown," doesn't disappoint either.

Thomas Francis Dorsey Jr. (November 19, 1905 – November 26, 1956) was an American jazz trombonist, composer, conductor and bandleader of the big band era. He was known as the "Sentimental Gentleman of Swing" because of his smooth-toned trombone playing. His technical skill on the trombone gave him renown among other musicians. He was the younger brother of bandleader Jimmy Dorsey.
