The Blood Brothers may be an underground delight we can only reminisce about these days, but their frequency-confusing founder Johnny Whitney and best bud Cody Votolato are still making music like their former band. Hologram Jams’ is their first release since the loss of drummer (and. former Pretty Girls Make Graves member) Jay Clark. And, we like the schizophrenic drum machine duo vibe a lot more. A duo, Jaguar Love is comprised of ex-Blood Brothers Johnny Whitney (vocals, piano) and Cody Votolato (guitar, bass). Having already caught the eye of Queens of the Stone Age, who took them on tour for a spell last year, Jaguar Love have since inspired the folks at Matador Records, who released one album and an EP, as well as Fat Possum Records, who have signed them to a worldwide deal. The John Goodmanson-produced sophomore full-length will arrive in early March on Fat Possum Records. Those who were not immediately turned off by Neon Blonde, will most likely at least give this album five listens before forming their opinion.

The resulting cacophony may just represent one of the most flagrant wrong turns in recent music history. Initially the new band focused on mixing the precision rock of Queens of the Stone Age with the expansive jazz chops of Mars Volta, an uncanny combination, but definitely more organic than their latest effort, Hologram Jams. In February of last year, when drummer Clark left the band, Whitney and Votolato turned to their laptops in an effort to replace their missing rhythm section.
