Tenderness, the third album by the experimental pop duo Blue Hawaii, situates itself in this new sub-genre of romantic art. Musically and lyrically, it attempts to recreate the headspace and challenges of handling relationships online -the isolation, the miscommunication, and lack of physical presence

Tenderness sounds bigger, bolder, and more sensual than Blue Hawaii's previous work, thanks to the duo's embrace of house, disco, and '90s dance music. Nowhere is this clearer or more irresistible than on "No One Like You," where giddy, disco-tinged strings and beats capture the thrill of being head-over-heels

Their second is a brighter-but just as tactile-affair, anchored by the soaring, Björk-like voice of Raphaelle Standell-Preston. It dials in classic, gospel-influenced house ( No One Like You ), hazy trip-hop ( Younger Heart ), and string-soaked ballads ( Do You Need Me? ) with a production style that makes even the album’s most stylish moments feel grounded and handmade. Tenderness Blue Hawaii.

Complete your Blue Hawaii collection. Can't say I thought much of the album has a whole (that indie rnb shit, I ain't wid it), but "No One Like You" is a killer vocal house anthem, uplifting and passionate, recalling Matthew Herberts more upbeat tracks off Scale but a touch more exuberant, especially with the sharp string runs in there. Chorus nicely quotes lyrics and melody from Kenix feat.

Blue Hawaii - Tenderness On the cover of Tenderness, Alex Cowan and Raphaelle Standell-Preston sit on a couch, faces turned towards their phones and away from each other. It's a reference to modern communication as well as the dissolving long-distance relationship that helped inspire Blue Hawaii's new album. But while Tenderness's artwork hints at separation, the Canadian duo sound more intertwined than ever before, turning the ethereal electronica of their last record into tighter, better pop music.

Almost all tracks have different mix on LP, just spinned my new limited LP. To be honest it was a huge surprise for me to hear different mix without any info on cover.

This album is a truly amazing reflection of what modern love is all about, it can feel almost at certain times too unnatural but at the same time one can't help but feel there must be some kind of intimacy in all those texts... this and other beautiful reflections about love and mostly self love, title track Tenderness is an amazing fuck-off to the one who has rejected you. Musically, it navigates the spaces of Björk, the xx and DJ Koze... but it still manages to play in its own league cause there's no other band sounding like Blue Hawaii right now. Plus, they have done slight chorus/verse variations through all of the formats, meaning that there's a different version of "No One Like You" in CD, "Make Love Stay" in spotify, don't know which one the vinyl has done differently but surely some version is! Anyways, this is an amazing album, enjoy!
