Singin' the Blues is the 1956 debut album by blues performer . King, issued by the Bihari brothers on their budget Crown label. Among its tracks, the album gathered together five charting singles. This eclectic collection mixes some down-home country blues tracks with some decidedly uptown jazzy takes on the blues, and the result is an oddly effective set, with such varied performances as John Lee Hooker's rough and ragged "Louise," Jack Teagarden's swinging "St. Louis Blues," Sister Rosetta Tharpe's crisp guitar on "Trouble in Mind," Joe Turner's easy and elegant. Singin' the Blues is a 1956 album by Jimmy Witherspoon. Witherspoon's session band included Harry Edison and Gerald Wilson on trumpet, Teddy Edwards and Jimmy Allen on tenor sax, Henry McDode and Hampton Hawes on piano, Herman Mitchell on rhythm guitar, Jimmy Hamilton on bass and Jimmy Miller on drums. The album was recorded for and released by Rip Records in 1956, and re-released in 1958 by World Pacific Records. Mark C.
