The Velvet Underground is the self-titled third studio album by American rock band the Velvet Underground. Released in March 1969, it was their first record with Doug Yule, who was a replacement for John Cale. Recorded in 1968 at TTG Studios in Hollywood, California, the album's sound-consisting largely of ballads and straightforward rock songs-marked a notable shift in style from the band's previous recordings.

The Velvet Underground & Nico is an album trapped inside a hall of mirrors – it’s one rock sound reinterpreted in a different kooky and introspective mirror. It’s eleven tracks have inspired dozens of sub-genres of alternative rock music, many of which are represented here. Many modern music artists echo Lou Reed and Nico’s voices and the band’s tight guitar grooves and trippy noise experimentation. Lyrically, songwriters pen their songs with an observant and critical lens worn in a lazy fashion. Allow these artists to expand your appreciation for this seminal 1967 album and learn how its.

In 1966, Andy Warhol, pop-art superstar, hooked up with mysterious group The Velvet Underground. Together they created pioneering multimedia art in a series of shows in New York that revolutionised the worlds of music and performance, before their eighteen-month partnership soured with the bungled release of the original art-rock record ‘The Velvet Underground And Nico’, leaving the outfit to disappear into a foggy enigma. These multimedia spectacles featured freaks from Warhol’s Factory performing as the Exploding Plastic Inevitable.

Upon first release, the Velvet Underground's self-titled third album must have surprised their fans nearly as much as their first two albums shocked the few mainstream music fans who heard them. After testing the limits of how musically and thematically challenging rock could be on Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat, this 1969 release sounded spare, quiet, and contemplative, as if the previous albums documented some manic, speed-fueled party and this was the subdued morning after.

The Velvet Underground is the third album released by the eponymous band. For example, Cale wanted to record this album with amplifiers submerged underwater. Reed would have none of that and gave the band an ultimatum – either Cale goes or he destroys the band. The other members didn’t want to fire him, but faced with the choice of continuing without Cale.

When ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ was released in 1967, the now-legendary debut album sold a mere 30,000 copies. Years later, Brian Eno famously declared that everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band. In more ways than one, the Velvet Underground were a revolutionary outfit like no other. They tackled immensely taboo subject matter and delved deep into the avant garde before it was commercially viable in any capacity
