A long out-of-print Joan Rivers comedy album is getting re-released next month. Titled The Next to Last Joan Rivers Album, it was recorded in 1968 at NYC cabaret Upstairs at the Downstairs and has been digitally remixed and remastered for its first-ever CD release via Stand Up! Records. In addition to twelve audio tracks from the performance, the CD will also include an eight-page booklet with linear notes by WMFU’s Kliph Nesteroff, photos by Look Magazine’s John Shearer, and a new essay on Rivers by Sarah Silverman. More than 45 years after it was recorded, the voice is strong and clear. It is young, but unmistakable: Joan Rivers. That voice-and the truths it speaks-are timeless. And the truth is always a little shocking.

Joan Alexandra Molinsky (June 8, 1933 – September 4, 2014), known professionally as Joan Rivers, was an American comedian, actress, writer, producer, and television host. She was noted for her often controversial comedic persona-heavily self-deprecating or sharply acerbic, especially toward celebrities and politicians. Rivers rose to prominence in 1965 as a guest on The Tonight Show. Hosted by her mentor, Johnny Carson, the show established Rivers' comedic style.
