Carole King's Tapestry made her a star in 1971, but before most of the album's devotees knew her name, she already had been an enormously successful songwriter for more than a decade. King and lyricist-husband Gerry Goffin spent most of the '60s writing hits like Little Eva's "The Loco-Motion" and The Monkees' "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (which reached No. 1 and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively). The cover art for Tapestry, taken by famed rock photographer Jim McCrary, is an iconic vision of Southern Californian hippie bliss: King, barefoot and frizzy-haired, relaxing by her window with a crafts project and a cat. Neighbors who dropped by to record included Joni Mitchell and James Taylor.

is an American singer, songwriter, pianist, author and environmentalist.

Played back to back, Carole King's chart entries would run about five straight hours. And those are just her hits – not to mention album tracks, B sides, and the odd flop. King's career as a songwriter is so expansive that it dwarfs even the monster sales figures of her classic 1971 solo juggernaut, Tapestry, which currently tops 25 million and counting. King was a musical prodigy, selling melodies to New York City publishing companies while she was still in high school. In college she met Gerry Goffin, destined to be her lover and lyricist for the next decade

Carole King is an American singer, songwriter, and composer. In 1997, Canadian singer Celine Dion recorded her hit song ‘The Reason,’ which was written by King. In 2004, Carole recorded a live album, titled ‘The Living Room Tour,’ and in 2007, she toured with young singers Fergie and Mary J. Blige and performed successfully. In 2010, she collaborated with James Taylor and released a live album, ‘Live at the Troubadour,’ which became a hit. Over the years, Carole won four ‘Grammy’ awards and was inducted in the ‘Songwriters Hall of Fame’ and the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Carole King first made her mark in the music industry as a songwriter, with a string of hits in the 60’s written in collaboration with her then husband, Gerry Goffin. These included The Shirelles 1960 hit Will You Love Me Tomorrow, Up on the Roof for the Drifters, The Locomotion for Litle Eva (and later by Grand Funk), The Monkees' Pleasant Valley Sunday and many others. Lou Adler, the album producer said that in an 2008 interview on PBS: It’s one of the first albums that I started noticing sequence and continuity of songs, so that it wasn’t a roller coaster emotional ride - it was a smooth ride.
