Dismissing the Klaxons is easy enough. To the more serious minded their semi-jokey talk of kick-starting "new rave", enthusiasm for the drug ecstasy and not-unrelated fondness for spouting cosmic gibberish (their Mercury winnings were going to be donated to a "telepathy charity" said guitarist Simon Taylor-Davis) were a wind-up, proof they were no more than a Mighty Boosh skit that got out of hand  .

Klaxons are clearly not the kind of band who spend ages in the studio pushing away at the outer reaches of possibility within the field of recorded sound. Oh sure, they TALK like that's what they do, their lyrics READ like that's what they do, and they DRESS like that is what they do, but they don't. Or at least, if they do, their record company would rather they did not, and have taken steps to ensure this is the case. Do you think they know they're being filmed?) Their hugely successful debut album Myths of The Near Future and the 2010 follow-up Surfing The Void earned the band a Mercury Prize and a loyal fan base that spans the globe. I managed to grab a few minutes with guitar player Simon Taylor ahead of the band’s Rock For People performance to talk about the band’s recent reacquaintance with live performances. CM: How much of the audience reaction/feedback do you really take on board? ST: I find the thought process far more interesting, it’s like trying to double guess people’s thoughts. I’m totally fascinated by this as an idea.
