Wolfgang Rihm: Lieder (classical music album) - Play streams in full or download MP3 from Classical Archives (classicalarchives. com), the largest and best organized classical music site on the web.

Abbitte: one of the tracks from the superb new lieder album by Clare and David Lesser (Metier MSV 28567) by perhaps today's most celebrated lieder composer.

His enormous output and bewildering variety of styles and sounds make Rihm a true original, and worth getting to know.

Apart from that Rihm is also highly regarded for his interesting and well-crafted series of song cycles, such as the Wölfli-Lieder, which makes use of challenging texts and is scored for voice and an instrumental ensemble. Metier's disc Wolfgang Rihm: Lieder is devoted to four cycles Rihm composed for voice and piano only. This disc features the English soprano and piano duo of Clare Lesser and David Lesser, who in every way deliver the goods for the benefit of Rihm's music.

Composed By – Wolfgang Rihm. Drums – Franz Lang (2) (tracks: 19 to 25), Martin Rosenthal (tracks: 19 to 25). Engineer – Anton Enders. Ensemble – Ensemble 13. Piano – Bernhard Wambach. Recording Supervisor – Bernhard Mangold. Vocals – Richard Salter (2).
