Konstrukt, the Turkish improv ensemble, continues their quality series of parings with veteran jazz musicians, this time with Joe McPhee, on their latest collaboration, If You Have Time. This is their second album together, the first being Babylon: The First Meeting of Istanbul, which was a live concert. If You Have Time was recorded days later, and the music is more direct and focused than the live performance. If You Have Time is a brief album by today's standards, comprised of four tracks, the first three blending seamlessly into one continuous track.

In addition to t Joe McPhee, featured here, konstruKt has collaborated with Evan Parker, Marshall Allen, Peter Brötzmann and Eugene Chadbourne among others, and their next album is a collaboration with Japanese saxophonist Akira Sakata. Such collaborations can be artistically risky, but konstruKt is up to the challenge. Here, they have chosen wisely: McPhee's liquid musical personality melds perfectly with the host band's, making Babylon a rich and varied musical experience. The music on Babylon, while improvised, is highly focussed. If you shop at any of the stores below, please initiate your purchase from All About Jazz. "Thirty years ago while on a plane waiting for takeoff, the pilot came on the intercom extolling the technical marvels of his new jetliner and reciting a poem about the wonders of flight. I can’t recall the title of the poem or its author but theses few words instantly grabbed my attention, “…to rush at the wind and having caught it, to soar.” I can’t think of a more accurate description of my first visit to Istanbul, meeting Konstrukt and this project. " JOE MCPHEE (May 25th, 2015 / Poughkeepsie, NY)
