With the release of his 2004 compilation "Rio Baile Funk Favela Booty Beats" he introduced the sound of Rio ́s favelas for the first time to a global audience, parallely creating the genre term „Baile Funk (in Brasil, the music is called „Funk Carioca ). From 2005 Daniel gave the sound of Rio De Janeiro its own platform and the Berlin treatment and started Man Recordings, today considered one of the leading international labels in tropical bass music. As a DJ, he has travelled the world and played countless clubs, festivals and events, including Hollywood wedding parties to gunman patrolled ghetto- jams. His party friendly mix of baile funk, house, trap, bubbling, kuduro and everything in between has excited audiences everywhere.

Since then his inspiration has shifted from South America to Africa and here he really explores that continent on second album "African Fabrics". There are 11 tracks that feature many styles and collaborations, highlights of which include the kinetic Afro grooves of "Akabongi" featuring Township Tech hero Spoek Mathambo, the electro tribal ritual of "Kaggua" and the off-the-wall percussive mantra "Black Coffee". Guests on the album include Spoek Mathambo label mainstay Stefan Morth aka KU BO, Portuguese trio Throes + The Shine, Dama Do Bling and Alcindah.

After releasing the acclaimed „Rio Baile Funk Breaks (Man 024) turntablist album together with DJ Sandrinho and DJ Beware in spring 2008, the Berlin based DJ and producer now proudly releases four baile funk inspired club bangers on his „Who’s Afraid Of Rio? EP. Haaksman decided to name his debut EP „Who’s Afraid Of Rio? as a bow down to the city and its rich music culture.
