Say what you will about this single, the best part of it all was that the song “Shakermaker” was lifted from the song in the Coca Cola commercial, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing,” where the boys had to shell out $550,000, with Noel Gallagher stepping in even deeper by saying, “Yeah, and the title of the song was lifted straight from a 1970 toy called a Shake Maker … though they’ve not been sued for that yet.The concept behind the Shakermaker artwork based on the lyrics about Mr. Soft and this imaginary wibbly wobbly world, taken from a Trebor Soft Mints commercial. If you look at the back sleeve everything is normal and there is no music being played through the cassette player. On the front you can see the hand of the creator and artist Brian Cannon pressing play on an Oasis cassette, where the music comes out and melts all the objects in the room.  Cannon claims that at the time he never used any photoshop effects and the most difficult thing was sourcing all objects that were plastic and thus meltable, with the most difficult being the plastic picture frames that looked like wood. He said that he completed the back sleeve then took everything outside and  literally got an industrial blowtorch and melted everything.  Going further to say that at this point of the process Bonehead and Liam turned up and saw him having the time of my life playing with fire and stated “Cannon, you’ve got the best job in the world.”Showing up on the album Definitely Mayber, “Shakemaker” is no “Supersonic,” simply a 12 bar boogie that inches out of your speakers with swagger and confidence.Review by Jenell Kesler
