Battleaxe is a heavy metal band from Sunderland, England. As one of the notable bands of the new wave of British heavy metal scene, they started out with the name Warrior and morphed into Battleaxe sometime in early 1980. The band consisted of Dave King (vocals), Brian Smith (bass), Steve Hardy (guitar), and Ian Thompson (drums). After playing around the area and honing their chops, they entered the studio to make a demo called "Burn This Town".

BATTLEAXE is a heavy metal nwobhm music artist. And so it was that from the ashes of the Warrior, there was formed a mighty Battleax. o runs the ancient legend. Sometimes legends can be true. Sometimes legends can be modern.

In December 1983, Battleaxe recorded their second album "Power from the Universe", this was to prove a turning point for the band when the relationship between guitarist Steve Hardy and the band broke down. Following the release of the second album, Battleaxe were able to get a support slot on a Saxon UK tour, which saw the band play a show with Twisted Sister and Anvil. Unfortunately this is where the story almost ends, as Battleaxe was unable to sustain any success in the UK and band almost fell apart.
