Lauded for their tremendous efforts as a girl group session act throughout the 1960s, Sweet Inspirations made their own mark with two LPs and a string of hits during the late '60s and early '70s, before disappearing under the radar until 1979, when they resurfaced on RSO with Hot Butterfly. Now down to a trio of founder member Myrna Smith, with Gloria Brown and Sylvia Shemwell, the revamped Sweet Inspirations re-launched themselves on the tails of Robert Stigwood's near single-handed disco revolution.

The Sweet Inspirations is the self-titled debut album by American recording soul/gospel female group the Sweet Inspirations, released in 1967 by Atlantic Records. Led by Cissy Houston, the Sweet Inspirations were highly-in-demand female back-up singers featured on some of the most important pop and soul recordings of the 1960s and '70s. They toured and served as session background vocals on albums by various artists' including Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and Dusty Springfield.

This song is by The Sweet Inspirations and appears on the album Hot Butterfly (1979). A faded photograph I mailed to youWith feelings I don't want to faceAnd a long song of surrender in blueI remember when you took my breath away.

Songs that sampled The Sweet Inspirations's Hot Butterfly: Everyday Life by . Remixes of Gregg Diamond and Bionic Boogie's Hot Butterfly: Hot Butterfly (Jim Burgess Special Disco Re-mix) by Jim Burgess (1978).

Sweet Inspirations Sylvia Shemwell, Estelle Brown, and Myrna Smith gather around Elvis Presley inside the group’s dressing room on February 23, 1973, the final night of Presley’s winter residency at the Las Vegas Hilton. Smith is wearing a necklace given to her by the undisputed King of Rock ’n’ Roll. Hot Butterfly, a further one-off album for Robert Stigwood’s RSO Records - the impresario managed the Bee Gees, who asked the Sweets to briefly tour with them - generated publicity when it appeared in 1979. Unfortunately, the disco fad was in full bloom, and the style was ill-suited to the group’s traditional sensibilities. The album was universally panned by critics. Smith eventually became the Sweets’ de facto leader after she married Memphis Mafia member Jerry Schilling.
