Thanks for signing up to the Jimmy Eat World mailing list.
Jimmy Eat World is an American rock band formed in Mesa, Arizona in 1993. The band is composed of lead guitarist/lead vocalist Jim Adkins, drummer Zach Lind, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Tom Linton, and bassist Rick Burch. As of October 2016, Jimmy Eat World has released nine studio albums, the last eight featuring the current lineup. The four-piece's commercial breakthrough came with the successful release of several singles from the album Bleed American (2001).
Musically, Jimmy Eat World have gone overboard with the trick they learned from U2: keep something somewhere jingling the same notes over and over again. Adkins' vocals are as whiny as ever, but here they sound canned as well. I'm in love with the ordinary," Adkins acknowledges on "The World You Love". That's not necessarily a bad thing; one of the year's finest album's, The Streets' A Grand Don't Come for Free, is kicked off by nothing more earth-shattering than a broken TV. Yet there's a difference between romanticizing the ordinary- a bad cell phone connection, say, or that feeling on a first date that goes really, really well- and being, well, ordinary. And it's hard to think of an album more mundane than Futures.
It differs from Jimmy Eat World - Futures in the Pressing Plant (disc MADE IN GERMANY BY UNIVERSAL M & L). This one is made by CINRAM Olyphant. Recorded at Cello in Los Angeles and at Harvey Moltz's House in Tucson Additional recording at Tempe Studio 'Drugs or Me' mixed at Avatar Studios, NYC Strings recorded at Oceanway Studios in Los Angeles 'Shame' recorded at Ocean Studios in Burbank.
The massive success of Jimmy Eat World's 2001 Bleed American propelled the band into the mass-culture spotlight, with the hit single "The Middle" seemingly popping up in every third movie released and the group turning in an energized performance on Saturday Night Live. Many, many groups followed in their wake, crafting a similar blend of melodic, anguished punk-pop and leaving Jimmy Eat World in the position of crafting a follow-up that set them apart from their acolytes. Futures gets around this dilemma in two ways.

I always believed in futures I hope for better in November I try the same losing lucky numbers It could be a cold night, for a lifetime Hey now, you can't keep saying endlessly My darling, how long until this affects me? Say hello to good times Trade up for the fast ride We close our eyes while the nickel and dime Take the streets completely I always could count on futures That things will look up and they look up Why is it so hard to find a balance Between living decent and the cold and real Hey now, what is it you think.

Bleed American was a fantastic mainstream success for JEW and a follow-up to an album like that is often difficult to execute. Needless to say, JEW certainly released a worthy successor to Bleed American. Not only does it expand upon their newly adopted style at the time, they make it better. Songs like Pain, Drugs or Me, and 23 are the masterful songs on the record that truly make that album shine. Although this is an excellent album, it is not completely devoid of its flaws. First of all, the flaws on the album pertain to some bland lyrics and some boring songs.
