Strung-Out Troubadours is the musical duo of Rik Emmett (of Canadian rock band Triumph) and Dave Dunlop. The pair regularly perform live shows together. Most of the songs are performed on acoustic guitars without vocals, with Emmett singing lead vocal on some selections. Emmett and Dunlop have played together since they met while both teaching at the National Summer Guitar Workshop in 1990. Dunlop began making appearances at Emmett's concerts, and the pair later began recording as a duo. In 2006 they released the album Strung-Out Troubadours, and began performing under that name. Later that year they released a recording of their live concert at Hugh's Room in Toronto. The third album, titled Push & Pull was released in May 2009, and in 2011 the pair released an album ReCOVERy Room9. Unlike their previous albums, this one included mainly cover tunes
Strung-Out Troubadours stamp this outstanding live compilation with their stylish brand of versatility right from the start. Their seamless mixing of varying styles of music is superb in its delivery. From the rockin' rendition of "All Along the Watchtower" to the Spanish flavor of "El Cuento Del Gadjo" and the jazz-influenced "Way Back Home," Rik and Dave deliver a performance worthy of the highest respect. Also present is a great version of the ever-popular "Three Clouds Across the Moon.

Dunlop: Absolutely, I was a Triumph fan. One of the first guitar pieces I learned was Fantasy Serenade from the Just a Game Album. I liked that album, and the Allied Forces record as well. 6. The Troubs released a record called Recovery Room 9 last year which you guys covered classic rock songs such as Message in a Bottle, The Boys of Summer and Born to Run. What motivated you guys to do a record of covers as opposed to all originals? Dunlop: Hmm. A friend lent me Bright Eyes ‘Cassadaga’, and that’s a creative effort (although I doubt it’s a 2012 release).
Rik Emmett & RESolution9 to release their electrifying new album RES 9 worldwide on November 11th, 2016. Watch the album trailer for RES 9 here. I’ve been working with Rik for over 20 years and we’ve done several records together as a duo, so I knew going in that it would be a good experience, says Dunlop, who’s also performed with Emmett under the quite fitting name of Strung-Out Troubadours.
