And then it came to me. I said to Gary, ‘Why don’t we do a blues album?’ Flashback to Belfast 1966; Gary Moore, then still only 14, had been making a name for himself as a guitar prodigy on the Belfast beat scene. But Moore soon ditched that plan and turned his mind to building a team of musicians under his own name. Graham Lilley, Gary’s then guitar technician, recalls conversations about including another guitarist in the line-up, with Snowy White’s name being mentioned. Inside Virgin, the conversation initially focused on this being a side project – in other words, not an album that would count as part of Gary’s contracted commitments. 12/05/2017 10:54:41 PM UTC.

Titled Moore Blues for Gary-A Tribute to Gary Moore, the album is the brainchild of Bob Daisley (Rainbow, Ozzy Osbourne), who had played bass with Moore since the early Eighties. It features guest contributions from Steve Lukather (Toto), Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs, Deep Purple), John Sykes (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), Doug Aldrich (Dio, Whitesnake, the Dead Daisies), Jeff Watson (Night Ranger), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion), Eric Singer (Kiss) and more. I don't think that enough was said or done at the time to acknowledge the loss of such a great player so I took it upon myself to pay personal tribute to the man and record some new versions of his music, mostly from his blues catalog. Moore Blues for Gary-A Tribute to Gary Moore. 01. That's Why I Play The Blues. Vocals - Jon C. Butler.

Perhaps Moore was too much his own man to be confined to a band. He recorded over 20 solo albums, including 1990's Still Got the Blues, and worked with everyone from BB King to Bob Dylan. While recording a track called The Loner, Moore epitomised the idea of a guitar man as gunslinger, following whatever path his restless spirit demanded. A man who kept his emotions in check as much as he allowed them to pour out through his guitar, Moore once said he would like to be remembered as someone who "meant it, no bullshit". Nobody who hears his remarkable playing would ever disagree.

Gary was the perfect Gary. He was different, that's why I love his playing. Gary Moore was into fusion at one point. I hear more Peter Green and Jeff Beck than anything else, perhaps even a little Albert Collins. The last thing I hear is Clapton or Hendrix. Gary is one of my fav guitar players. i love Hendrix as well. don't really see then as all that similar. Gary can do a Hendrix tune justice and there is a whole concert recording to prove that. he still sounded like Gary Moore playing Jimi though. agree that Gary was a very versatile player which is a big reason he is one of my favs. i don't hear Clapton in him at all though. he was friends with Peter Green and certainly. soaked up more than a little of his playing style when it comes to blues. monwobobbo, Jul 11, 2019 at 4:32 PM.
