Is This Real? is the debut studio album by the Portland, Oregon-based punk rock band Wipers, originally released on vinyl in January 1980 by Park Avenue Records.
Youth of America is the second studio album by American punk rock band Wipers. It was released in 1981 by record label Park Avenue. The album marked a distinctive change in the band's sound. Compared to its predecessor, Is This Real?, which was composed mostly of raw, sleek and relatively traditional songs, Youth of America featured much longer and complex compositions; the title track alone clocks in at over 10 minutes.
Released May 17, 1981. Youth of America Tracklist. The album was released in 1981 by Park Avenue, who also released the band’s studio debut, Is This Real. Restless Records reissued the album in 1990, and Sage’s own Zeno Records released the album again in 2001 as part of the Wipers Box Set. Jackpot Records reissued the album one more time in 2007. In comparison to the tight, compact song structures of the first album, Youth of America is almost prog-rock by comparison, with some tracks clocking in at over ten minutes.

A distant cousin of the preceding Youth of America but undoubtedly no less excellent and no less venomous, Over the Edge is a return to the easily digestible song lengths of Is This Real?; however, it all but leaves that debut in its wake. On the strength of some brave/smart radio stations that decided to play this album's "Romeo" (a propulsive horn-flecked slammer in the vein of "Youth of America"), Wipers solidified their status as a certifiable force in the American underground of the early '80s
On Youth of America he is both defeated by impotent rage and consumed by a lust for unknown pleasures, self-discovery, and change. This is essentially the punk equivalent of an evil laugh emanating from a lone turret at night. On the breakdown, delay is used on the cymbals so that they ricochet around the mix, both heightening the air of draughty gothica and needling those proto-Yuppies like a bad conscience, on the eve of their deal with the devil.
