The San Francisco Symphony (SFS), founded in 1911, is an American orchestra based in San Francisco, California. Since 1980, the orchestra is resident at the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall in the City's Hayes Valley neighborhood. The San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra (founded in 1981) and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus (1972) are part of the organization. Since 1995, Michael Tilson Thomas has been the orchestra's music director.

Like its predecessor, it too has been unmatched for 30 years. That is quite an achievement for any conductor. Today's featured disc includes the Symphonies Nos. 1 and 6 from that second cycle. The recordings of the Nielsen symphonies by Blomstedt with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra won critical acclaim. The recordings were re-issued at a later date in box-sets with different pairings of the symphonies. This one is the original release containing Nr. 2 & 3. Enjoy!
