Given their usually exhaustive treatments of their subjects, it is a bit of a surprise, and a letdown, that Great Britain's Proper only managed to come up with a single disc of material to represent John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie's formative to flowering years. It's not that the music contained on this 27-track single disc isn't worthy; of course it is, but there is so much more that this feels more like a tease instead of a taste.

Things to Come continues the trend of a tight focus, this time, on Dizzy's big band affiliations. The arrangements of the music performed were based of Gillespie's own charts for his famous 1945 Be Bop big band. The recital includes some of the most famous Be Bop and Hard Bop anthems: Benny Golson's "Stablemates," Whisper Not," and "I Remember Clifford. Monk's "'Round Midnight" is given an aggressive treatment as is "Manteca" and "Night In Tunisia.
