1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) is a soundtrack album by British musical duo Eurythmics. It was released on 12 November 1984 by Virgin Records and contains music recorded by the duo for the 1984 film Nineteen Eighty-Four, based on George Orwell's dystopian novel of the same name. Virgin Films produced the film for release in its namesake year, and commissioned Eurythmics to write a soundtrack.

Music derived from Eurythmics' original score of the motion picture 1984. Eurythmics appear courtesy of RCA Record Limited. Printed in Germany by TOPAC, Gesellschaft für Tonträger-Verpackung mmbH, Gütersloh.

Eurythmics 01-01-1984. Total duration:39 min. 01. I Did It Just The Same. 1984 - For The Love Of Big Brother. 02. Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four). 03. For The Love Of Big Brother.

But for the Eurythmics, the 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother) soundtrack ended up being almost more trouble than it was worth. Singer Annie Lennox and t Dave Stewart were already soaring on the charts when they were tapped to provide the soundtrack for director Michael Radford's adaptation of the George Orwell novel imagining a futuristic totalitarian society. Of course Richard, being a smart businessman, had negotiated this one album away from RCA, envisioning that it was going to have this huge hit on it for him, and he’d sell millions of albums with it," laughed Stewart. And then we did this song called 'Sexcrime' which was actually banned from the radio in America. Ultimately, no one really got what they wanted.

Listen free to Eurythmics – 1984 (For The Love Of Big Brother) (I Did It Just The Same, Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four) and more). There have been versions of the movie using Eurythmic's music and using mostly orchestral music as a soundtrack. The director Michael Radford was not too happy with Eurythmic's contribution and claimed, it had been forced onto the movie. David Stewart on the other hand claimed to have acted in good faith. I Did It Just the Same. 3. 5. Greeting's from a Dead Man. 6. Julia. 9. Room 101. Product details. In my opinion this is the best Eurythmics album. Don't get me wrong I love many of the others but this one is so dark and so creative. The first time I heard it was around 1985 when I found it in a bargain bin at TG&Y. I've been in love with it ever since.

The original score of the motion picture 1984, it was treated as a side project for marketing purposes, not as Eurythmics' full-fledged fourth new studio album. Much of the album is instrumental, and the closest thing to a pop song, "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)" (which was a Top Ten hit in the . like the other vocal numbers, relates to the movie's future fiction theme. As such, the album is substandard if judged as an independent Eurythmics album, adequate if judged as a soundtrack.
