Australian group Deaf Wish seem to represent the uncomfortable underbelly of Noise-Rock in their newest LP ‘Pain. here are some genres in music that slip into a bit of a niche market, Noise Rock is one of these. It takes a lot to pull off something like this, and trying to create something new is like playing with chemical reactions – sometimes you will create an amazing new substance, but most of the time it’ll just be an explosive mess. To me, ‘Pain’ is an example of one of these botched experiments. Thank god that awful yelling is gone now you think as you kick back and finally get what you paid for. Instead you can hear the instrumental equivalent, which is far more interesting. Just take care at the end. The final song ‘Calypso‘ is nice, it’s what I expect from a band like this. Offbeat guitar strums and moaning yet structured singing, again reminiscent of Pixies and other such artists.
