After retiring to the Virgin Islands in 1968, not much was heard from Duke Ellington's longtime clarinetist Jimmy Hamilton, other than a couple of brief reappearances to play with Clarinet Summit. He taught locally and worked with a quartet on one of the islands. The release of this LP by Who's Who was therefore a bit of a surprise, for it finds Hamilton playing clarinet and alto in prime form with a quartet also including pianist Gary Mayone, bassist Joe Straws and drummer Delroy Thomas. Hamilton performs five lazy love songs and five tunes associated with Duke Ellington.
Rediscovered at the Buccaneer is a swing music live album recording by JIMMY HAMILTON released in 1985 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. Rediscovered at the Buccaneer Contents.
Jimmy Hamilton (May 25, 1917 – September 20, 1994) was an American jazz clarinetist, tenor saxophonist, arranger, composer, and music educator, best known for his twenty-five years with Duke Ellington. Hamilton was born in Dillon, South Carolina, and grew up in Philadelphia. Having originally learned to play piano and brass instruments, in the 1930s he started playing the latter in local bands, before switching to clarinet and saxophone.
