The Fall were an English post-punk band, formed in 1976 in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. They underwent many line-up changes, with vocalist and founder Mark E. Smith as the only constant member.
The British musical group the Fall had just one constant member: vocalist Mark E. Smith. Aside from him, there were about 66 members over the band's 41-year existence, with about a third of the musicians lasting for less than a year. A number of guests and people with brief stays in the group are listed afterwards.

The album broke into the Top 10 UK albums chart, and featured an infectious cover of the 1979 Sister Sledge disco anthem Lost in Music, originally written by Chic’s Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. Listening to Smith howling Lost in Music, with an ace backing band, made you realize that The Fall’s endless repetition and rhythmic groove was sort of disco all along. This later-period Fall album showed that Smith hadn’t yet run out of ideas. The album featured more electronic accents, and rock-hard riffing.
The Fall is ranked number 269 in the overall artist rankings with a total rank score of 10,784. Members who like this artist also like: The Smiths, Joy Division and The Clash. Overall band rank: 269. prev12 3 4 5 next .
If it’s me and your granny on bongos, it’s the Fall. So sayeth Mark E. Smith (MES), the mercurial, irascible, and incredible leader of the legendary post-punk band. It’s a quote that gets thrown around often in response to the parade of musicians (upwards of 60 by my rough count) that were hired and fired, joined and quit during the nearly 40 years of the band’s existence
Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine. Harsh, jagged experimentalists whose style was defined by the razor-tongued yet highly literary invective of singer Mark E.
