Dave Remington, originally a pianist, switched to trombone by 1956 and had some luck with his Dixie Six, recording three albums for the Vee Jay label during 1959-1961. This set, the group's second LP, has Remington leading a sextet that has an impressive front line, which includes trumpeter Dick Oakley and clarinetist Chuck Hedges. The 11 selections are all quite concise (none top four minutes), but a lot gets played in a relatively brief period of time. This Chicago-based band had plenty of spirit and, although Remington would soon fade into obscurity, Oakley and Hedges have had lengthy careers.
