Ring of Fire", or "The Ring of Fire", is a song written by June Carter Cash and Merle Kilgore and recorded by The Carter Family in 1962 and by Johnny Cash in 1963. The single appears on Cash's 1963 album, Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash. The song was originally recorded by June's sister, Anita Carter, on her Mercury Records album Folk Songs Old and New (1963) as "(Love's) Ring of Fire".

Ring of Fire: The Best of Johnny Cash is the sixteenth album in total by the singer-songwriter Johnny Cash, released on Columbia Records in 1963 (see 1963 in music). This album collects tracks from singles and an EP released between 1959 and 1963, Cash's first years on the Columbia label, and marked the first release of these tracks in LP format, with the exception of "I Still Miss Someone," which had previously appeared on the 1958 album The Fabulous Johnny Cash.

Before Johnny Cash released "Ring Of Fire" as a single, he had a steadily growing career. His now-legendary 1957 debut album Johnny Cash With His Hot And Blue Guitar established a buzz that eluded the singer in his prior attempts at a gospel career. But despite a growing career (before the launch of The Johnny Cash Show), he only had one album release that charted. 1958's The Fabulous Johnny Cash hit No. 19. And to make matters worse, his string of top 10 radio hits was in decline, and the early 1960s felt like something of a dry spell for the new star.
