Genre: Alternative Rock. On their sophomore effort, The Smashing Pumpkins up their sound to appeal to the more grunge-style rock that was popular in the early-90s. Don’t let that fool you however, this is not grunge. This is shoegaze-inspired hard rock with amazing guitar work from the very underrated Billy Corgan and easily the best jazz-inspired drumming of the 90s from Jimmy Chamberlain. The sessions for their sophomore effort, Siamese Dream, were wrought with friction - Corgan eventually played almost all the instruments himself (except for percussion). Some say strife and tension produces the best music, and it certainly helped make Siamese Dream one of the finest alt-rock albums of all time

Siamese Dream is the second studio album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released on July 27, 1993 on Virgin Records. The album fused diverse influences such as shoegazing, dream pop, and heavy metal, and has been described as "closer to progressive rock than to punk or grunge.

Their debut album, Gish, established Smashing Pumpkins as a viable alternative rock band with arena rock potential, but Siamese Dream broke the gameplan wide open. From their earliest days, the Pumpkins had been a cauldron of heated emotions and demanding visions. And with producer Butch Vig ready to capture the big rock sound that many alternative groups were shying away from, Corgan and Vig went about layering the guitars until the wall couldn’t be penetrated
