Originally named "The TRIPOLI Trinidad Steel Band", the outfit briefly renamed themselves "The ESSO Trinidad Steel Band" when the petroleum corporation Esso began sponsoring the group in 1964. But when Esso cancelled its sponsorship, the group again rechristened itself to the Tripoli Trinidad Steel Band. Some copies of this LP had stickers affixed to the front replacing the word "Esso" in the title with "Tripoli".

When Borde relocated his family from Trinidad to Ypsilanti, Michigan, in 1976, the group effectively splintered, but his children (led by son Emile) later organized a new Trinidad Tripoli Steel Band lineup, releasing the LP Momentum in 1985. This version of the group continued touring into the next century.
