Eskimo is an album by the Residents. The album was originally supposed to follow 1977's Fingerprince; however, due to many delays and arguments with management, it was not released until 1979. Upon release it was hailed as the group's best record to date.

Eskimo Snow is the third studio album by American band Why?. It was released by Anticon on September 22, 2009. The album was recorded in February 2007. When asked to compare it to his previous albums, Yoni Wolf said: "This record, Eskimo Snow, is really the least hip-hop out of anything I've ever been involved with. I mean, they feel like song-songs with- I don't want to say a typical verse-chorus structure, but they're song-songs.

I get why this is so divisive. Following up your magnum opus with a record that lacks virtually everything that made people like you in the first place (most notably any trace of hip hop) is a bold move. I still find a lot to enjoy here when I alter my expectations. 100. Long road trips to southern America have never been this enjoyable.

Yoni Wolf gives away the mystery of Eskimo Snow pretty immediately in the record: that he’ll be Facing history with little to no irony. The thing is, the irony is exactly what made Why" fun in the first place. No one can fault Why" for wanting to grow up, but Eskimo Snow listens like they don't know if they really want to or not. The first half of this album embodies this quandary perfectly, because for every great deep and introspective tune Yoni pens, there’s a poor one too. It makes Eskimo Snow maddening. While the first half closes with Into the Shadows of My Embrace, one of the act’s strongest songs to date, the preceding section of the album’s a mess, constantly fighting between its desire to be smart indie rock and to be kooky.

Anticon trio Why? recorded Eskimo Snow, their fourth full-length, during the same sessions as Alopecia, which was released in March 2008, almost exactly 18 months to the day before Eskimo Snow came out. The album, which was being marketed as the "winter" side of the two, also features Mark Erickson and Fog's Andrew Broder, and is, altogether, a wholly more "organic" record, full of layered keyboards and guitars and gentle swells, and above all, a strong sense of melody, of those bits of pieces of songs that separate themselves from the chaff and hook themselves
