Sarah Vaughan & Billy Eckstine.
The Divine One is mostly a ballads collection, and it includes a few songs that were new to her repertoire - good choices like "Have You Met Miss Jones?" (aka "Old Jones"), "When Your Lover Has Gone," "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams," and "Jump for Jo. One great left-field choice is "Ain't No Use," the R&B song taken as a slow torch song that Big Maybelle had first recorded (Nina Simone didn't record it until several years later)

Sarah Vaughan, sometimes incorrectly referred to as Sarah Vaughan with Clifford Brown, is a 1954 jazz album featuring Grammy Award winning singer Sarah Vaughan and influential trumpeter Clifford Brown, released on the EmArcy label. It was the only collaboration between the pair. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. The album has been re-released on CD and LP many times, with its original nine-track listing and with an additional track
I was introduced to Sarah's rendition of "Ain't No Use" as a teen through the original "Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz" which contained this song and "Dancing in the Dark" as the selections for Sarah Vaughan. Yet then again, there is absolutely nothing amiss about it either. The Divine One' is led by the capable, nimble hands of the very underrated pianist/arranger Jimmy Jones, along with Don Lamond on drums and Harry "Sweets" Edison on his muted trumpet. It's too bad that the other members of the band were mentioned as "unknown" in the liner notes (if any one of you jazz guru's can lend me a hand it would be much appreciated).
