Hailing from Cataluña, Spain Lost Tapes was formed in 2012 by Pau Roca and RJ Sinclair. Both members had formerly found success in other bands: Roca in the indie group La Habitación Roja, and Sinclair in the punk outfit Tokyo Sex Destruction. Despite their other associations, the duo maintained that Lost Tapes was anything but a side project. Following a string of digital single releases that echoed the jangling guitars and melodic power pop of the C-86 scene and associated groups like the Pastels, Lost Tapes released their debut long-player in 2016

Since forming in 2012, Spanish duo Lost Tapes have released a steady stream of digital singles leading up to the release of their debut, Let's Get Lost, in 2016. Given their penchant for the dream pop and jangle pop of yore, it seems appropriate that these songs should finally get an old-school physical release. The resulting record is a collection of tracks recorded over three years. Where they do flounder is in the album's all-too-perfect veneer. Much of the charm of groups like the Pastels and the Vaselines is bound up in the sense that everything they do is very much homespun - be that real or imagined. Although We Thought It Was OK at the Time sounds a little less refined and more relaxed than their debut, it's still too polished and unblemished. Consequently, it often lacks the ability to really get the blood pumping.

The Alchemist, and a young Kanye West co-producing with D-Dot. The Lost Tapes Q&A.

So of course, with these lost tapes, it was material we thought at the time maybe it was not good enough to release o. .I don't know why it stayed in the room where all the tapes were. Irmin Schmidt: As it turned out 'Spoon' became a big hit here in Germany, it was a number one, so we ended up playing the song live a lot of the time because the people asked for it. But we never played it like it was on the record. It was always a new creation.
