A Farewell to Kings is the fifth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on September 1st, 1977 by Anthem Records in Canada and by Mercury Records.
Rush is the debut studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on March 1, 1974 by the band's own label Moon Records in Canada and by Mercury Records in the United States and internationally. Their first release shows much of the hard rock sound typical of many of the popular rock bands emerging earlier in the decade. Rush were fans of such bands as Led Zeppelin and Cream, and these influences can be heard in most of the songs on the album.
Rush fans have always wondered what are the best Rush albums of all time. Since they were immortalized in the film I Love You, Man, they've enjoyed more success than ever before. They also happen to be one of the greatest hard rock and greatest prog rock bands ever to come out of Canada. Since 1974, the lineup consisted of lead singer Geddy Lee, guitar slinger Alex Lifeson, and drummer Neil Peart. Peart is typically counted among the best rock and roll drummers of all time.
Rush released its eponymous debut album in March 1974. 24 gold and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records later, the band is only third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum albums by a rock band. 2112 40th Anniversary. Time Stand Still DVD/Blu-Ray.
Any list entitled Rush Albums Ranked Worst to Best must contend with their very longevity. Since forming in 1968, the band has evolved through a series of eras – adding elements and taking others away, making a critical change in membership – while building one of the most dedicated fan bases in all of rock. Along the way, whatever their different permutations, Rush never released a truly bad album, just a few imperfect ones. They have never been afraid to try new things, or to discard those new things – be that side-length songs, electronics or even rapping.

Rush also brings in Rupert Hine to produce the album. Presto really brings back a hard rock sound that had not been heard since their 1981 album Moving Pictures. Although, Presto may not be as great as Rush's releases during their prime, it does somewhat resemble them.
The main reason for the album's different sound and direction is that their lyricist/drummer, Neil Peart, was not in the band yet, skinsman John Rutsey rounds out the original line-up, also consisting of Geddy Lee (bass/vocals) and Alex Lifeson (guitar). It's nearly impossible to hear the anthemic "Finding My Way" and not picture Robert Plant shrieking away, or Jimmy Page riffing on the jamfest "Working Man," but Rush was still in their formative stages.
