For those who were fed up with the generic, formulaic nature of the material dominating the urban-contemporary market in 1991, Innocence's heartfelt Belief was a breath of fresh air. While a Soul II Soul-ish ambiance is evident on this sleek, atmospheric recording, Innocence definitely projects an identity of their own. What's especially unusual about Innocence is that the group essentially avoids both ballads and high-speed workouts - choosing to maintain a comfortable, relaxed, medium tempo on both acid jazz-influenced instrumentals and haunting vocal numbers featuring the subtle.
Unfortuntely, INNOCENCE (led by vocalist Gee Morris) a British Band, only made two albums (as far as I can determine and own). All tracks are beautifully orchestrated with lush tones and harmonics. Deep meaningful lyrics underpin exquisite musical virtuosity. Innocence was and still are ahead of their time. Innocence exudes similar spiritual overtones to early Santana classics such as Welcome, Borboletta and Caravanserai. Their musical greatness is probably magnified by their absence.
Belief is the second album of the British EBM group Nitzer Ebb. It was the first album recorded with drummer Julian Beeston (who took over from David Gooday), and Flood took over as producer from Phil Harding. It was released by Mute Records on 9 January 1989. The fifth song on the album, ". appears to have been inspired by the Hezbollah hijacking of TWA flight 847 in 1985.
