Object Collection’s avant-garde opera repurposes odds and ends from Fugazi’s live archive. It’s abrasive and funny – but the politics still hit hard, says Louder Than War’s Paul Margree. For collectors, obsessive fans and even the artists themselves, the music is seldom enough. London, Berlin label Slip has collected half of Object Collection’s heavyweight work onto two releases: a full-length album (It’s All True) and accompanying 7-inch (Prisons For Profit). And although Fugazi themselves weren’t involved, the project comes garlanded with praise from the band’s co-founder and bassist Guy Picciotto.

For those who are unaware of Object Collection's forthcoming album, It's All True is a recording the NY based collective's opera based upon the Washington DC post-hardcore band Fugazi legendary audience banter as recorded during the group's seminal live gigs. Ripe with all of the fuzzy-edged intensity of Fugazi's music, Prisons For Profit plays true to the music its inspired by, yet carries the strong theatrical edge you would expect from such a project.
